I regret stopping back in 2008 due to unpleasantness, and want to give it an honest try. I've been living in Canada now for nearly 10 months, and am so happy to be with my husband every day. Toronto is an amazing city, with so many things to see and do. The multiculturalism and natural Canadian friendliness make every excursion a pleasant surprise.
I'm still adjusting to Canadian things like bagged milk, saying "zed" for the letter Z, and saying Kraft Dinner or KD instead of Kraft mac n cheese. However, the access to Cadbury chocolates makes it totally worth it! *wink*

a response...

I'd like to say in response to the comment left on my earlier blog by my father's wife, that yes they did call me BEFORE the trip. When I spoke with my father, I didn't have the heart to say directly that I didn't feel comfortable coming to his house as we have not been close in over 5+ years. During those conversations I did offer to meet him and his family for dinner in a couple different public locations, which he was unable to commit to. I also told him I would have my cell phone on me, and verified the number for him (which has not changed in over 4 years). I told him that I was trying to accomplish a lot in the short time I was down there as my wedding is next year but my attendants live there in Kentucky and I'm in Michigan. I never received a call while I was in Kentucky.

My grandmother and other members of my family planned a large cookout while I was there, which my father and family said they were unable to attend because they had other plans as the cookout was scheduled on the Sunday which was my father's birthday.

As for making the effort to see me in Florida and Michigan, I'd like to point out that those efforts were 10 to 15+ years ago, and before the estrangement that currently exists.

I'm disappointed that my siblings Jessie and Julie are so upset by my blog. It's true that we don't have much of a relationship, and that I have been distant. However, they were much younger when this conflict really took hold, and I did not want to put them in the middle. It's hard to have a relationship with siblings that are 10-14 years younger when you're not speaking to their parents. I truly wish them and my brother Jeffrey every success and happiness in the world.

After all that has gone on over the years, I'm done. I am happy in my life and with the man I'm going to marry. I have a wonderful mother and extended family who have been so amazingly loving and supportive to me over the years. So for the sake of myself, and others, I will not be pursuing any more contact with my father and his wife and children.

Sincerely,
Sarah

So I think I'm a bit nutty....

Sitting at my computer this evening I got the impulse to see if I could look up the phone number for Blu Mankuma, an amazing actor I had the priviledge of meeting a couple years ago at Botcon. As his name is very unique, it was not hard to find said number. Going a step farther I actually got the guts to dial his number. He has the most amazing voice, and remembered me (thank goodness!). He was a total sweetie and it was awesome to reconnect with someone I admire greatly.

Look him up people - he's a terrific actor and an amazing person!! By the way this is a pic of us when I met him.

Home at last!

Just got back from our 10 day vacation - glad to be in my own bed, but already missing my friends and family. Chad and I drove down to KY for meet and greets with my family who were very interested to meet this Canadian artist http://operative274.deviantart.com who has stolen my heart. Trying to explain the concept of biscuits and gravy to him was TOO funny.

Only sour note on the trip was my father's choice to completely NOT call me at all, even tho he hasn't seen me in over a year and a half and has never met my wonderful fiance. Mind you, it's not like he disapproves or anything. We've just had our issues for the last 10 years or so. Apparently my driving 650 miles to be in the area wasn't good enough, or maybe I expected too much in thinking he'd drive 45 minutes to meet us somewhere for dinner.

After taking a in a county fair (mmmm funnel cakes!) and relaxing with my best girlfriends we hit the road again to drive to the windy city for WIZARD WORLD CHICAGO. I am a true geek and love going to conventions. Saw some awesome stormtroopers (Yay 501st!) and a decent jedi or two ;)

Amazing artists( http://locoduck.com http://www.lartist.com http://jbrant047.deviantart.com ), great guests( http://www.chasemasterson.com ) and panels, and a humongous hotel room (bigger than my last apartment) made for a great end to our holiday. Sad to hear that the great Michael Turner passed away, which dampened spirits convention wide.

All in all, a wonderful trip.
